OUR MISSION
Our mission is to address the challenges posed by existing and future data centers, and their resulting infrastructure in Loudoun County and Virginia. We are dedicated to promoting a common-sense, do-no-harm approach to delivering electric power to consumers.
Virginia has a power problem
Virginia is experiencing a rapid surge in electricity demand, driven primarily by the exponential growth of data centers. As the global data center capital, Northern Virginia plays a central role in this trend. With advancements in chip technology making them smaller and more powerful, data centers now consume more electricity per square foot. At the same time, data center campuses are expanding in size.

Northern Virginia hosts over 70% of global internet traffic, making it the world’s data center capital.
Skyrocketing Demand
Loudoun County’s data centers now consume more electricity than the entire city of New York.
Massive Expansion
By 2030, the power needs of Virginia’s data centers are projected to grow by over 60%.
Environmental Costs
Data centers are responsible for 10 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually in Virginia—a figure set to rise.

Importing Power
New data center proposals are often demanding power equivalent to that of a large power plant for each campus. By law, Dominion is required to supply this power. However, Virginia lacks the generation capacity to meet these demands, forcing electricity to be imported from other regions through transmission lines, which also require substations.

The LTLA works at the grassroots level, working with legislators, while also organizing community education and advocacy. This is a rapidly changing situation. We are part of the Data Center Reform Coalition, advocating bills and regulations, and continual research on the problem.
